Well, it's that time: Back to School for me!
August 15th began a week of teacher workdays. While most of these days were dedicated to required trainings and DoDEA briefings, we were given some time to get classrooms ready and bulletin boards updated before students start back on August 22.
Considering the master schedule wasn't finalized until Friday afternoon, I knew I wasn't going to be able to do library orientations during the first week of school, so I volunteered to help our fourth-grade team set up their classrooms. From hanging up classroom decor to weeding and reorganizing their classroom libraries, I had my hands full! On top of all that, maintenance had yet to turn on the building's AC, so classrooms were well-over 80°...nothing like sweating out every ounce of water in your body to bring you back to school reality!
While I'm off sweating my tail off, all I can think about is how I left my boys earlier that morning:
Life is tough in the Johnson household!
On the other teacher workdays, I spent some time decorating my library doors and my assigned bulletin board! Luckily I was able to get all this done before our "Sneak Peak," where students and parents came to meet their teachers on Friday, August 19.
Following the Sneak Peak event, a few of us "specialists" put together a balloon arch so parents had a place to take all those First Day of School pictures!
Then the big day came! It was time for the First Day of School! While the library was closed for classes, I enjoyed our opening morning gathering in the cafeteria, where I got to greet all 197 of our students!
Looking back at this first week of school, I realize how blessed I am to be starting my second year at Darby Elementary as their Information Specialist. Don't worry, I still call the "information center" the "library" and my kiddos know me as the "librarian!" I'm sticking with the classic titles!
Darby is a great place to be! Check out our amazing staff and students:
Cheers to another great year at Jack N. Darby Elementary School!
