It's us again with another puppy update! Hugo and I have been staying busy while Mom is at work and ad is gone on the USS America!
So here's a quick update on what life has been like for the month of October:
The month began with Dad leaving us for a week. Mom wasn't too sad (she says she's getting used to the short floats) but Hugo and I HATE it when dad leaves! So mom went and enjoyed a beach day at Oseto Beach, knowing that the weather is about to get too cold for sunbathing! She did say she got a little sad seeing some locals taking a scuba diving class...that made her miss dad and all their dive trips!
Of course while dad is away is ALSO when all the crazy things happen at home too! One night Mom, Hugo and I were snuggled up in bed when we heard a loud BAM! and then the whole house started shaking!!! I jumped up and started barking like crazy thinking it was fireworks at Huis Ten Bosch...but fireworks don't go off at 1 am!
Nope, it was another earthquake!!! Mom and I noticed it right away and felt every single shake. It was quite scary.... but Hugo slept through it on his dog bed! I don't know how he did it! With mom wide awake, she checked the news and learned that the earthquake occurred off the coast of Okinawa and lots of our neighbors felt it too!
While that night was pretty scary, the next morning we were reminded of God's goodness with a rainbow! Mom may have been upset that all the natural disasters happen while dad is at sea, but at least she was reminded that He is looking after her!
Mom picked dad up from the ship on October 7 and took dad out to eat at a local ramen shop called Doppo! They said the coolest part is that you ordered by paying at a vending machine. The vending machine then spits out a ticket, and that's what you handed the staff so they knew what to cook for you! Pretty cool, huh?!
Dad said it did taste as good as he smelled when he got home!!! Sis and I missed out for sure! (Why do mom and dad have all the fun trips without us?! Don't they know we like food too!?!)
Also while dad was home, the Huis ten Bosch Wine Festival started up! Mom and dad enjoyed a late-night date night, where they got to sip wines from all over the world! They both said they tasted some wines from countries they hope to visit in the future! I'm down for whatever country trips; as long as I'm with my people, I will be happy!
While dad chilled at home with us one evening, Mom went with some of the Wardroom Spouses to USO's paint night, where she painted some cacti! Mom said she had fun, even though she was surrounded by several of her students...she spent a lot of the paint night complementing their work, but she said they gave her lots of compliments in return!
With summer coming to an end, Huis ten Bosch hosted their annual firework competition! Mom and Dad did NOT give us a heads-up, so I (of course) made sure the entire neighborhood knew I was not happy with the loud sounds and extra commotion! Eventually, Mom and Dad got me calm enough to sit and enjoy the show with Hugo by my side! I mean, look how cute we are!
Both mom and dad were impressed with the show- it went on for an hour and a half, but some of the fireworks were really impressive! Don't believe me? Check them out for yourself:
Once the firework show was over, I was exhausted from my evening of barking. Hugo curled up with me and we slept ALL NIGHT LONG! Even the next morning, we weren't ready to get up with mom and dad! Mom even checked to make sure we were both still breathing! She thought we were too funny, so she snapped this pic of us as her and dad headed out to work!
Before he heads back to sea for another float, mom and dad surprised Reynolds and I with a trip to the beach! Since it is getting cooler in Sasebo, they knew the beach would be empty and ready for a dog-gone fun day of chasing balls, burying bones, and fetching toys! I mean, you can't look at these pictures and tell me sis and I weren't born to be beach pups!
Now, I do have a bone to pick with Mom....literally. Our Gigi mailed sis and I the BEST BONES IN THE ENTIRE WORLD. Pigs feet. Reynolds and I chewed on them the whole day at the beach, but when it was time to leave, Mom "forgot" the bones in the sand!!! She says it was an accident, but Dad told her to do it. Apparently they are "nasty and gross and still have pig leg hairs on them" but sissy and I LOVED THEM.
Long story short- Gigi, if you read this, please mail us more goodies. Just don't send pig feet. Mom and Dad refuse to touch them, no matter how good they taste!
Dad left on October 16 for another week-long cruise, so we were back with a single parent! While we thought it was going to be a boring week, we lucked out: mom hosted her book club at the house! While the book club members all agreed the book sucked, Hugo and I stole the show! We got more belly rubs and forehead kisses in that 4-hour span than we have gotten from mom in a week! Dang, mom really should host book club every month!
So there's our life update! Good news though, dad only has to do one more float in November and then he will be back until January! See, Hugo and I can look at the positives and know we are well-loved and taken care of here in Sasebo, Japan!
Wags & Kisses,
Hugo & Reynolds
