Oseto Beach Day Getaway

It's finally warming up here in Sasebo, and that means it's FINALLY time to hit the beach! When Bryan said it was going to hit the mid-60s, I told him I would happily wear shorts and a tank, pack a sweater (just in case), and sit with my toes in the sand all day long!

Luckily for us, the wind wasn't bad, so I ended up sitting in my sports bra and Bryan took his shirt off to soak in some extra rays before our Hawaii trip! Did the locals judge us? Possibly. Did I care one bit? Not at all!

Finally, I'm back in my happy place- on the beach, with my man. If I close my eyes, I feel like I'm back on a Californian beach in winter!

So this is Oseto Beach, and it's the closest beach to base housing. A curvy, mountainous climb in the Mira Gino, the 30-minute drive isn't too bad. The roads right by the beach are tiny- barely fitting one car width on a supposably two-lane road- but this seclusion makes it the perfect spot for a quiet day on the beach! There are even camping spots that we noticed some locals taking advantage of! I won't lie- there are worst places to wake up to FOR SURE!

Beyond the crystal clear waters and sandy beach, Oseto is home to some really cool rocky outlooks. We have watched lots of people haul fishing poles out on the cliffs with the hopes of a fresh catch. Bryan and I braved the rocks for some afternoon exploring!

This place is a dream; nightmare roads to get there, but a dream upon arrival. Bryan wants to come back once the water warms up in a few weeks to do a practice open water swim for his triathlon in June. I want to come back with rental scuba gear from the base and explore what those fishermen are trying to catch. Both of these to-dos are on our summer bucket list for Sasebo!

With a beach day in the books, I just have to get through the last few weeks of school and Bryan has to survive his Dental Readiness Inspection with the Surface Pacific Fleet Dental Officer. Then it's blue waters and summer rays for a few months!

Bring on the summer!
