Hey peeps! Hugo here!
So on September 27, Mom took me for a car ride and left sissy at home! Boy, do I love one-on-one time with Mom! We started with a nice walk through a park and then went to visit my friends at the vet office! Miss Christina checked me out and drew some blood- and I sat so still while she took the blood from my neck! Mom held me and whispered nice things to me during this process and afterward, I was very happy to be free from their grasp!
Eventually, the bloodwork came back and showed my liver numbers were still slightly above the normal range, but "we could still move forward with today." Whatever that means!
Then Miss Christina talked with Mom some and I could tell Mom was a little stressed, but I reminded her today was a fun day just for us! I heard them talking about my lumps- I have fatty lumps on my chest, one on my eye, a new one on my shoulder, and two smaller ones on two of my legs. Mom has been worried about the spots on my chest and my eye. They aren't bothering me, but Mom and Dad worry about them getting bigger and causing other issues.
Apparently, Miss Christina agrees with them. So after some chats, the vet's assistant came and took me away from Mom!!! What the heck!? This wasn't how the day was supposed to go!
They took me in the back room and gave me another shot that started to make me feel funny. But I fought that medicine and ran out to the lobby to see Mom again- I knew she wouldn't leave me! The last photo below is me trying to fight off the sleepy medicine so I could stay with Mom longer! But eventually, Miss Christina and her helper drug me back into the room. Next thing I remember is darkness and the best sleep I have ever had!
Okay people, while Hugo was off having a nice little nap and enjoying his private Mom time, I was at home VERY worried about him. Why the heck was I left at home!?! I have only ever been left without Brother a few times....and I don't like it one bit.
So when Mom came home WITHOUT Hugo I wasn't happy. I mean, just look at my scared face...
Mom calmed me down some...but I was still on edge and had a bout with a "hurt tummy"... where is my brother?!
Eventually, Miss Christina called Mom and said Hugo "was awake and hating the kennel." No duh! I can't believe Mom took him to be locked up- we all know Hugo hates a kennel!!! AND the worst part was I wasn't there to calm him down!
So Mom jumped in the car and went to pick him up. When Hugo got home...he smelled funny and he was really sleepy. Mom kept reminding me to "be gentle" because apparently Hugo can't play with me after his kennel disaster.
After checking on him, I realized he had some cuts on his side, his belly, his eye, and two of his legs. This is why Hugo can't go anywhere without me! I am supposed to protect him!!! But I made sure he was comfortable and I cuddled with him to help him heal faster.
The first few days after my vet visit, I was pretty drowsy. The medicine Miss Christina gave me helped me sleep a lot, and the pills Mom gave me helped with the pain and kept me from getting an infection.
I did let Mom keep an eye on my spots. Dad checked my stitches every day to make sure things were healing well too!
But the worst part was at night, I had to sleep in a compression shirt and the evil donut to prevent me from licking... yeah. That outfit was ridiculous and uncomfy! I made sure to show Mom and Dad how miserable I was in it too!
One week after surgery, I went in for a checkup with Miss Christina and she said I was healing beautifully! Then at the two-week mark, I went in and had half the stitches removed. Then a few days later, we went back and had the rest of my stitches removed!
Between those appointments, Mom, Sis and I spent a lot of time soaking in the rooftop rays and napping! I didn't realize how much energy it took to heal my spots! Dad even jokingly called me his Little Frankenstein- since I'm spending the entire month of October filled with stitches!
Eventually, Mom and Dad felt comfortable leaving me at home alone with sis, so they enjoyed a few late-night walks on the beach! Just look at those sunsets! Dad says that in a few weeks, I will be cleared to get sandy and we can all go to the beach!!!!
During my healing process, I also adopted a new sibiling. Mom and Dad said we can keep him as long as he lives outside- but everyone meet Lenny! Lenny is my lizard friend who visits us every night on our kitchen door! Lenny is small but he eats a lot of bugs!
Welcome to the fam, Lenny!
By now, it's been 3 weeks since my surgery and I am feeling much better! My spots have healed great and I no longer have to wear the compression shirt or the donut (thank goodness.) Here's an update on how my spots look now:
Only one more week until we can go to the beach and get sandy! I'm already looking forward to it! For now, I will continue to enjoy lying in the grass and smelling Dad's delicious grilling!
Wags and Kisses!
